The Federal Government have released their revised anti-siphoning laws for televised broadcasts and for the most part, have been a win for the average viewer. Events such as Twenty20 cricket matches involving Australia and World Cup Socceroo Qualifiers have been added to the list, whilst two tiers have been developed to help categorise the new rules.
Tier A consist of Free-To-Air TV events that must be broadcast live (see list below) while Tier B’s constraints will cater for regular AFL, NRL and Australian Open games through various Free-To-Air digital channels. FOXTEL will be able to bid separately for up to 4 AFL matches that are not considered as high quality games and FTA Networks who choose not to display broadcasts on the anti-siphoning list could potentially lose the broadcast.
Tier A (On channels Seven, Nine and Ten)
Events Include:Boxing Day Cricket
Anzac Day Football
